Friend's Account Got Hacked.
Well, apparently, my friend's account got hacked recently.
When we found out about the new update, we rushed to get on but he said he couldn't. He reset his password but the email didn't come back yet. I'm assuming these emails are supposed to come back right away though. He went to sleep and now when I signed onto Guild Wars, I saw him on. The difference is, this guy only responded to me once and all he said was "? ? ? ? ?" in the Asian font. My friend is my best friend in real life so this can't be some kind of dirty joke. What should he do in this situation? |

There's nothing he can really do if changing his password didn't work besides contacting support....maybe try changing the password again?

After resetting my password at the master account I then got the message that my account was terminated for gold seller activities. I have spoken to NcSupport and to be honest, so far, they've been quite helpful. They confirmed my account was hacked and I am awaiting their confirmation of recovery of my account. I am hoping it will still happen this weekend but I am at least happy that they confirmed my account was hacked and that they can still recover my account. I had to send them a lot of stuff and I didn't have all of it but hopefully it will be enough for my account to be recovered. But my advice is to really speak to NcSupport and see if they can help your friend. |

Your friend needs to contact GW/NC support (http://www.guildwars.com/support/) as soon as possible, with the subject "ACCOUNT HACKED." Stress that you're pretty sure the hacker is still active on the account (give the date, and time if possible, your exchange happened) so they can put a freeze on the account to prevent further damage.
Once the account is frozen, your friend will have to provide ownership information (CD keys, receipts, etc), anything to verify his identity as the legitimate original owner of the account. Once all that is straightened out, his should have access again. Make sure he runs virus/malware scans for keyloggers before he attempts to re-access the account. |

They have very sophisticated programs for account stealing. While I'm not up on the latest, I believe, like spammers, they just flood NCSoft with password change requests using every possible email address the program can form. As NCSoft does not require knowledge of the existing password, your account gets stolen and they clean it out. They will also use it for gold farming/selling while they retain control of it.
You will regain your account, but, be prepared, it most likely will be stripped of everything of value. If it is the gold sellers, then they most likely won't delete the characters. You can check in the HoM calculator to see if your character name is still in use. My son's account got stolen last week. We just found out on Friday, so we also are awaiting Monday and a response from NCSoft. |
